CIS Primary Educators Explore Future-Ready Teaching at MENTARI x MCE Pedagogy Masterclass
Surabaya— Chalidana Islamic School (CIS) Primary continued its commitment to continuous professional development as Cambridge teachers and principals from CIS Primary Gresik, Sidoarjo, and Malang participated in the MENTARI x MCE Pedagogy Masterclass: “Shaping the Future of Education & Skills in a Changing World.”
Held at Harris Hotel & Convention Surabaya, the one-day masterclass brought together educators to explore how teaching practices can evolve alongside the changing needs of students, society, and the future workforce. The program provided opportunities for educators to gain new perspectives, exchange ideas, and explore practical approaches that can be brought into the classroom.
The program began with a plenary session by Dr. Ho Boon Tiong, titled “Building Skills: Bridging Schooling and the Workforce.” The session highlighted the importance of equipping students with relevant skills and creating stronger connections between learning at school and the demands of the future workforce.
Educators then joined specialized subject sessions. Mr. Atrajus s/o Kanan Ramdas led the Mathematics session, “Beyond Answers: Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussions in the Age of AI,” exploring ways to encourage deeper mathematical thinking and meaningful classroom discussions beyond simply finding the correct answer.
In the English session, Ms. Mabel Tan presented “Making English Real Through Student-Led Discourse,” focusing on student-led communication and creating opportunities for learners to actively participate in meaningful English interactions.
Meanwhile, Dr. Brandon Oh led the Science session, “Flipped Classrooms and Culturally Responsive Teaching in Science Education,” introducing approaches that encourage active learning while connecting science education with students’ experiences and cultural contexts.
Through the masterclass, CIS educators gained fresh perspectives on student-centered learning, productive classroom discourse, future-ready skills, and innovative teaching practices across different subject areas.
The participation of educators from all CIS Primary branches reflects CIS’s commitment to empowering teachers to continuously learn, adapt, and innovate, ultimately creating meaningful learning experiences that prepare students to navigate a changing world with confidence and purpose.
